I would like to just take a second to welcome you to
the GCC website. Although the Internet cannot
possibly show everything that our college has to
offer, it is a good way to express the heart of GCC.
I have had the unique opportunity of growing up at
Gateway, but since I began attending the college,
I have seen my church in a brand new light. There
is always something going on, and there are so
many different ways to help minister. As you can
tell from some of our pictures and videos, student
life is full of excitement.
The dorm room experience is unlike any other.
Sure, the dorm is a place for you to sit back and
relax after a hard day's work, but it is so much more.
Nightly prayer group meetings are a time when
you can share your heart with those who are going
through the exact same things. Sporadic
discussions about spiritual issues are times when you can really get to understand what the
Bible says about important and current topics. The dorm is also a place where lifetime
friendships are made with people who will be there for you years afterwards. In fact, looking
back on the three years which I have spent in college already, I must admit that the dorm is
perhaps the thing which I have enjoyed most.
OK, let's be honest. We both know that college is not just about friendships and fun.
Although the classes are challenging, the education is extremely practical. The classroom
setting involves a lot of hard work, but I would not be telling the whole truth if I did not mention
how rewarding I have found it to be. Being able to learn something during class and to turn
around and apply to life is something which words really cannot explain. The times that I have
enjoyed classes most are when the professors will explain their point with one of their
personal illustrations. You can tell that the professors pour their lives into each of their
students when they are willing to tell you about their lives and what God has done for them.
Whether it be a funny anecdote or a tearful testimony, all are effective and helpful for learning.
The most unique experience you will have at GCC is to take part in the ministry of Gateway
Free Will Baptist Church. Words fail me to tell you how much I love and appreciate my
church family. You can tell that the church appreciates each student because of the time and
money that members sacrifice in order for us to be here. Remember, I said earlier that the
education is "extremely practical;" the church is where the head knowledge gets put into
practice. It is one thing to learn ways to reach people for Christ, but it is quite another to
REACH PEOPLE FOR CHRIST. You will be taught the most effective ways to tell the
unsaved about a Savior; but additionally, you will also be given wonderful opportunities for
service. For example, you will be able to sit down with little children who ride the church bus
to tell them how Jesus can save them and their families from a life of sin if they only trust Him.
That is why we are here.
